Usually, Handwriting difficulties are easy to overcome with practice. My goal is to show you how simple, worthwhile, and enjoyable handwriting can be.
1- How to hold your pen
Properly holding a pen is the first necessary step to mastering handwriting, and it is not always well taught in school!
Not holding your pen correctly can be tiring and lead to pain in the fingers, hand, and even the arm and shoulder. It also makes it more difficult to write easily and to succeed in forming legible letters.
The most efficient way to hold a pen is with a three-finger tripod grip:
The pen must be held between the thumb and the forefinger, resting on the middle finger. The ring and little fingers are curled into the hand to give stability.

Now that you know how to hold your pen, let’s practice using it with some easy exercises that will help you relax your hand and get rid of unnecessary tensions.
Retracing exercises
You can practice these exercises on large sheets of paper and then test different sizes, from the biggest to the smallest.
- The Infinity Symbol
This exercise works all the muscles involved in writing: the arm rotates around the shoulder, the forearm around the elbow, and the hand around the wrist.
●On large-format paper.
The wrist and arm should rest on the table and follow the hand’s movement. Begin at the top right (where there is an » x »), go toward the center, and continue without stopping for as long as you please. Both loops should be the same size. You can quicken or slow down the pace as you please, and experiment with different rhythms as you retrace.
